Dental Veneers: Cost and Quality

In Chicago, cosmetic dentists have been known to charge anywhere from $799 to $3,599 per veneer (or tooth). Why the big veneer cost discrepancy? The one-word answer is quality. Properly made veneers are best viewed as mouth jewelry— not dental restorations. Veneers, like diamonds, vary dramatically in price with quality.

Higher quality porcelain veneer cost

  • Demand the expertise of a higher-end cosmetic dentist. At the Mitchell Dental Spa in Chicago, we achieve superior results due to higher levels of effort and planning. Photos and models of the existing teeth are first taken. These are used to design a new smile where the veneers are size and shape optimized to the individual’s face.  Veneer color, texture, shininess, and translucency are then varied to further enhance the esthetics. This allows us to achieve an enhancement of the entire face— not just the smile.
  • Higher-end veneers fit better over the existing tooth, locking out the potential for later decay due to underlying tooth exposure. Good fit also adds to veneer longevity.
  • Higher quality porcelain veneers come from higher-end labs. The complexity and esthetic demands of a good veneer require artistic ability beyond mere technical skill. Higher-end labs with these capabilities charge more. Low end labs use technicians trained on the job, while higher-end labs use college degreed ceramicists.
  • Higher-end veneers have exquisite esthetics and cannot be differentiated from real teeth. The ceramic artists that make high-end veneers vary color, texture and translucency to create a work of art. Low-end veneers look fake, flat and monochromatic. High-end veneers therefore take a lot more time and effort to create, resulting in a higher cost.
In summary, like with most things, you get what you pay for. Veneers are no different and vary in price with quality. Expect to pay $1400 or more for a quality porcelain veneer. Veneers at lower price points simply do not look as good.
